Paying Extra For Dolby Atmos UPDATE
Update: After the scapegoat type response from HBO Max … check your equipment so on and so forth … apparently they think a person familiar with audio/codex would complain without having checked the most basic of settings not to mention gone much further. It must be amazing to them that other content on their sight plays fine. Or that other streaming services play Dolby Atmos without issue. But how mystical it must seem to them that some episodes of House of The Dragon play Dolby Atmos while others don’t.
? Could it be that you throttling on busy nights?
From an AI search “Yes, streaming services can throttle the transmission of Dolby Atmos during periods of high traffic. This means that users may receive a lower-quality audio track instead of the full Atmos experience when demand is high, such as during peak viewing times.”
Whatever creates this senario, people who paid extra for this service should receive it when the content states it is available. Trying to point the finger in my direction is unacceptable. If there are conditions where it can not be delivered, it should be stated clearly up front.
Equipment: Sony Oled TV, Apple TV, Marantz AVR
——————————————————
When you are paying a higher premium for Dolby Atmos, half of the second season should not be just surround sound. If you can’t consistently offer a premium product you should not charge for it.
I tested this thoroughly with two Apple TVs and on all the other seasons/episodes which did not fail to deliver the proper sound.
When a soundtrack is made for Dolby Atmos it sounds terrible when down converted to 5.1. Get your act together.
